Project Background

The Town of Canaan is developing a Master Plan for Stoddard Field, a 7.5-acre community Park located across from Town Hall. The Park features a range of amenities including a pond, athletic courts and fields, gardens, and a playground. This Project will create a long-term vision to enhance recreation, accessibility, and community use, while also evaluating the relocation of the American Legion Canaan Veterans Memorial to a safer and more appropriate setting within the Park.

A Park Master Plan is a long-term guide for how a Park may be improved and used over time. The Plan evaluates the Park as a whole, considering community needs, existing features, and future opportunities to create a clear vision. The Master Planning process includes items such as public input, site analysis, and concept development to ensure the Plan reflects how people use the space and what they would like to see in the future. The result is a flexible roadmap that helps guide decision-making and future improvements for the Park's future.

The Planning Process includes site analysis, community engagement, and the development of conceptual designs leading to a final Master Plan. Public engagement input through this online project website, community survey, and one (1) in-person public engagement event—will play a key role in shaping improvements and helping position the Town for future Park improvements.

Below is an Interactive Park Map and a Community Survey. You are welcome to contribute your comments to both! This feedback will become part of the Park Planning process. Please provide your input by July 4, 2026
